Introduction of Home Guard :-
The Home Guard is a paramilitary volunteer organization that serves as the nation’s first line of defense in the event of a foreign invasion or other national emergency. Officially, the Home Guard is a reserve force of citizen soldiers, ready to be called into service at a moment’s notice.
In reality, however, the Home Guard is little more than a placeholder for conscription, a way of stockpiling young men until the draft is reinstated. The Home Guard was a British emergency force of the Second World War.
It was the civilian counterpart to the British Army and was intended to be a home defence force, but grew into a much larger paramilitary organisation.
It was controlled by the Ministry of Home Security, which was responsible for emergency planning, and was one of the mainstays of the country’s resistance to the German occupation of most of the country, which began in June 1940.
The Home Guard was established by the Defence of the Realm Act of August, which conscripted all men aged between 18 and 70 into the armed forces.
